WEEK 23

The Pilgrimage of North Dakota

Some famous photographer once said "If you want to take more interesting photos, stand in front of more interesting things." These are some wise words to live by, and what would be more interesting than North Dakota's Official Tallest Waterfall?

Outside the tiny town of Fort Ransom there is a fork in the North Country Trail. Following this fork will lead you on a path for three miles through the Sheyenne National Forest. Walking through this "trail" for lack of a better word can really only be described as wading through a swamp of tick infested waist high grass. Now it should be expected that if you wanted to see the largest waterfall you are going to have to work for it, but once you finally make it there you may be surprised at what you find.  Since I didn't bring my measuring tape I cant be exactly sure how tall it is but if I had to guess, I'd put it at around 5ft. Not exactly Niagara Falls. Still, it should be something that every North Dakotan sees at least once, even if you have to fight through an army of ticks on the way.
